Giving Back To The Community

Valerie Tutor is dedicated to her community and giving back to those in need. It is a core part of who she is and what she believes. When you buy or sell your home with Valerie, you are also helping contribute to the Sanibel Captiva community.

Valerie has generously pledged a portion of her commissions to Sanibel Captiva Cares, an organization that is very near and dear to her heart. Sanibel Captiva Cares supports the Golisano Children’s Hospital. In addition to her regular contributions she also was a Partner/Sponsor once again for the 2015 Sanibel Captiva Cares Annual Fundraiser.

Valerie is Chairwoman of the Herb Strauss Theater at Big Arts on Sanibel and works with the committee and staff to ensure we bring entertaining as well as thought provoking productions to the islands for residents and visitors alike.  Valerie is a member at the Supporter level of  the BIG ARTS organization as a whole. Known as Sanibel and Captiva’s home for all the arts, BIG ARTS has been providing cultural enrichment and fulfillment to island residents and visitors since 1979. BIG ARTS members and participants enjoy a wide spectrum of performing and visual arts events, and the community participates in more than 200 educational classes and workshops each year.

She has been a sponsor for Zonta’s Peek of the Unique Event. Zonta of Sanibel/Captiva is an active and award-winning club providing hands-on assistance, advocacy, and funding to strengthen women's lives on the islands, in Lee County, and around the world through Zonta International.

Valerie is a member and Publicity Chairwoman of the Sanibel Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association. The Mission of the American Business Women's Association is to bring together businesswomen of diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support, and national recognition.

She is a proud member of the Sanibel Captiva Chamber of Commerce and serves on our Governmental Affairs Committee providing a voice for the business owners on the island on topics that affect our economy and way of life.  She is a contributor to the quarterly newsletter reporting on the topics covered by this committee.

Valerie and her circle of friends have a few local charities they feel strongly about and donate to as a group. These contributions are on an anonymous basis just as a way of giving thanks and paying it forward.

I am a true Florida native and proud of my heritage growing up in South Florida on an 80 acre cattle ranch only two hours from Sanibel. Since the early 1960s, my family loved to spend our free time on Sanibel and Captiva, so I pretty much grew up here. After living and working all over South and Central Florida, my husband and I were thrilled to be able to move home to Sanibel Island.
