September Shells And Sand In Sanibel

September is here just in time to catch our breath from a great summer season.  I totally missed the August blog since I write these myself & things were so busy here!  The summer months brought our European friends and lots of east coast Floridians and their families to enjoy these gorgeous islands.  Now that the kids are in school and we are approaching fall, the island gets very quiet for about six weeks before it starts slowly cranking up to the holiday season and the return of our winter visitors.  Labor Day was busy with folks enjoying a last long weekend.  Dinner at the Green Flash on Captiva with favorite friends and clients was lots of fun!  Hosting an Open House at a spectacular Clam Bayou listing was busy with lots of visitors and neighbors stopping by to see this gorgeous home with a view.  Visiting the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum to see some of their new exhibits, I found out that they are the only museum in the United States devoted to shells!  I have been on and off this island my whole life & that was news to me. The exhibits are beautiful and lots of fun with many interactive opportunities.

The real estate market continues to be brisk both on the island and in our off island communities.  I have been blessed to represent clients both here on Sanibel recently on a beautiful home in the Sanctuary and in Fort Myers at a gorgeous community minutes from Gulf Coast Town Center and the SW Florida International Airport.  The island is a true paradise, but buyer can often get much more for their money in our wonderful off island communities.    The biggest issue we face now as we head closer to the season is the lack of inventory.  We have very few properties left on the market to show to folks looking to buy their own place in the sun.  There are currently just 129 homes & just 113 condos for sale on Sanibel and Captiva combined.  Our off island SW Florida market has more available since it is a larger area but even those communities are experiencing low inventory and multiple offers on properties priced at market value.  If you are looking for a rental for winter 2016 it will be almost impossible to find now since most all available properties throughout SW Florida are already reserved.

Sign up for a free account here on my website so you can search all the properties on the market throughout Fort Myers, Naples, Bonita Springs, Marco Island and more.  Since it’s updated every 15 minutes, it is the most accurate site you will find!   Ciao for now – happy fall!

I am a true Florida native and proud of my heritage growing up in South Florida on an 80 acre cattle ranch only two hours from Sanibel. Since the early 1960s, my family loved to spend our free time on Sanibel and Captiva, so I pretty much grew up here. After living and working all over South and Central Florida, my husband and I were thrilled to be able to move home to Sanibel Island.
