It is June already and Sanibel & Captiva Island’s summer tourist season is poised to begin. What is amazing is that our winter season barely slowed down until just a few weeks ago. We had a record number of properties close or go under contract in May here on the islands. In 2015, through May 31, we have sold or placed pending 260 homes, 175 condos and 41 lots. Average sales prices were $1,000,000+ for homes, $814,000 for condos and $500,000+ for vacant lots although several went in the $300,000 range. There aren’t many buildable lots left on the islands. Inventory in general is low. We have just 151 homes listed on Sanibel and Captiva and 130 condominiums. So, it is still very much a seller’s market with buyers arriving daily to purchase their special island retreat. Our off island communities in south Fort Myers, Fort Myers Beach, Bonita Springs, Estero and Naples also had amazing sales this season. The Sun Sentinel reported a few days ago that the economy in Florida continues to grow faster than the national average with real estate being one of the driving forces.
As I said last month, the beaches are beautiful this time of year and the Gulf and Bay waters will take your breath away. When you come over our Causeway bridges, you will get a panoramic view of San Carlos Bay and its gleaming turquoise waters. Porpoise can frequently be seen rolling and playing and the pelicans seem to glide alongside your car window as they keep an eye out for a yummy school of fish! I love seeing the folks that visit our Causeway beaches and make a day out of it, BBQ-ing, swimming and fishing. There will be more and more of that now that the kids are home from school.
I celebrated my birthday the other day by doing my favorite thing - going out on the boat, fishing and cruising around visiting friends and stopping at awesome pool bars & restaurants on the water. What a day! Sun shining & a breeze blowing that kept it from being too hot. We saw manatees rolling, in the mood for love, and porpoise making a meal out of a school of mullet. Motoring along the shoreline, you view the gorgeous estates and condos that make our island a sought after getaway for folks from all over the world. We picked up friends on our boat and made our way to the Tween Waters Inn pool bar where they have the best hamburger on Sanibel or Captiva Island! Sipping a Mai Tai and eating a grilled hamburger by the pool reminded me of why I live here! Watch our latest video, Discover Captiva and then come see me – I saved you a seat…..
I am a true Florida native and proud of my heritage growing up in South Florida on an 80 acre cattle ranch only two hours from Sanibel. Since the early 1960s, my family loved to spend our free time on Sanibel and Captiva, so I pretty much grew up here. After living and working all over South and Central Florida, my husband and I were thrilled to be able to move home to Sanibel Island.READ MORE
