Summertime – and the living is easy….that is what the song says and when you are here on Sanibel and Captiva that is how it feels! The picture is of my friend, Capt. Mick of New Moon Sailing, who loves to teach people how to sail – or just take you for a sail around our islands. Tempting, isn’t it? Sparkling, sunny mornings, gorgeous bay & Gulf waters, birds wheeling through the blue sky, dolphins playing near shore… all of it just makes you want to hug the islands of Sanibel and Captiva and say thank you! The sun is hot and the day gets lazy, but the beaches are filled with happy vacationers and kids out of school enjoying the hunt for shells and playing in the clear water. Just when it gets the hottest, an afternoon summer shower passes by to cool things off and then the sea breeze kicks in to push it away! The days are capped off with spectacular sunsets and visitors and locals hit the Sanibel-Captiva shores with cameras and glasses raised, applauding the show nature puts on at the close of each day.
June also brings out fun activities here on the islands and off island. We just celebrated our annual Island Nights at the Fort Myers Miracles Baseball game the other night. They are a minor league team for the Minnesota Twins organization that play at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers. We have the Sea Monsters Exhibit at the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel all month as well. That is really something to see! Of course, we have more turtle nests every day and young osprey who are now flying and learning to fish.
While our winter “season” is over here on Sanibel and Captiva, we are so thankful and excited to see so many visitors here for the summer as well. Rental bookings continue to be strong and are growing. This is great news for those looking to purchase an investment rental. We are seeing lots of families from the east coast of Florida and from England, Germany and other areas of Europe here throughout the summer. There are plenty of homebuyers still coming in, so if you know of anyone on the island or even south Fort Myers thinking of selling, please tell them about me!
The fishing is great, the weather is fine, the beaches are gorgeous and our restaurants and shops are open for business. We are waiting for you here in Sanibel and Captiva and I hope I can help bring you home to your dream vacation home – or permanent home right here!
I am a true Florida native and proud of my heritage growing up in South Florida on an 80 acre cattle ranch only two hours from Sanibel. Since the early 1960s, my family loved to spend our free time on Sanibel and Captiva, so I pretty much grew up here. After living and working all over South and Central Florida, my husband and I were thrilled to be able to move home to Sanibel Island.READ MORE
